Age Suitability

Datum is a private data-tracking journal: the user defines what to track, records values against it, and reviews the result. This page explains why that design is suitable for all ages, in more detail than the App Store's rating questionnaire alone can capture.

The app contains no objectionable content of its own

Datum ships with no media, no articles, no imagery, and no pre-written content beyond its own interface — no violence, sexual content, profanity, horror, or drug/alcohol/tobacco references of any kind, simulated or otherwise. There is no simulated gambling. There is no advertising, and no third-party advertising or analytics SDK is included in the app.

Nothing is shared, published, or seen by anyone else

This is the core of why a personal journal is a different category from a media or social app. Datum has:

• No user-to-user communication — no chat, no comments, no messaging between Datum users of any kind.
• No public profiles or feeds — nothing a user records is ever visible to another user, or to us. It stays on their device and, if signed into iCloud, syncs only through their own private CloudKit database (see the Privacy Policy).
• No unrestricted web browsing — Datum does not embed an open web view for arbitrary content.

Because a tracker's name, a note, or an attachment is authored entirely by the person using the app, for their own private reference, the same reasoning applies here as to a Notes, Files, or Photos app: the app is a capable, general-purpose container, not a publisher or distributor of content. Nothing a user privately records about their own life is reviewed, hosted, or exposed by Datum to anyone — including us.

Optional data sources add nothing new — they reference what's already on the device

Datum can optionally attach weather, calendar events, photos, location, workouts, or now-playing music to an entry, and can optionally connect to Apple Health or Photos as a read-only data source. Every one of these is opt-in per tracker, gated behind the operating system's own permission prompt, and surfaces only data the user's device already has — Datum does not introduce new content, contacts, or data sources of its own.

In-app purchases are ordinary Apple purchases, not real-money gambling or loot mechanics

Datum offers optional, fixed-price purchases (additional tracker slots, an unlimited unlock, and individually priced features) processed entirely through Apple's standard In-App Purchase system. There is no randomized or chance-based purchase of any kind. Because purchases go through Apple's own purchase flow, they're already covered by a family's existing Screen Time and "Ask to Buy" controls.

Not directed at children, but not restricted from them either

Datum isn't designed or marketed for children, and doesn't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13 — there is no account, no sign-up, and no server of ours that receives what a user tracks (see the Privacy Policy for the one narrow, disclosed exception, which stores no personal data). A parent or teenager using Datum to track, say, homework, mood, chores, or a hobby is using it exactly as designed.

Summary

Datum's rating reflects an app that is, by design, a private container with no content of its own, no sharing, no communication between users, no advertising, and no chance-based purchases — the same category of app as a notes or files utility, applied to structured personal data instead of free text.
